The blog will feature thoughts, mostly written by John Alden, with guest writers from time to time. The principle purpose of the CM blog is to discuss our thinking about measurement trends, methods, frameworks, good content and current events in the following broad topic areas:
- measuring business performance
- enterprise risk management
- continuous process improvement and measurement
- occasional posts about topics of general interest to our community.
I plan to function "somewhat" like industry analyst/commentator with attention to objectivity and facts (or the use of trusted/authoritative sources).
My strongest interest is aiding operational executives and their improvement teams by providing trusted insight. As a result I read and download at lot from online journals such as HBR, McKinsey, certain brand name businesses, e.g. Accenture, IBM, HP/EDS, and many others sources. What I have not done until now is write for a community. I would expect to learn a great deal in the coming months.
We will be 99% about improving organizational performance so this blog is not a place for rants, family vacation stories or personal pictures. From time to time, I will take the liberty of posing a rhetorical question, designed to enlist serious posts of interest to the CM community. A current example might be to wonder about the state of operational risk management in the nation's financial institutions.
Since I have had successful survey research experience, I will from time to time create a “poll” on a current topic and publish and comment on the results.
This is a new personal venture--like most of us--I have written thousands of emails, PowerPoints, proposals, etc. Few have been shared beyond their initial scope--maybe that's a good thing ;-) Now, I will change my behavior so that CM can build a larger more engaging community. I hope you will join and contribute.
